Tarapith Temple, West Bengal

Tarapith Temple is one of the prominent temples in West Bengal. Tara means “star” because of the eyeball of Devi Sati fell here. The temple is located in Birbhum, West Bengal. It is one of the 52 Shakti Peethams of India. Every year Millions of devotees from various parts of the world have been to the temple to worship Maa Kali. People believed that Goddess Tara Maa will fulfill the wishes of devotees.

The deity has two hands and is adorned with garlands and holy threads. And has Shiva lying in her left lap sucking her breast. But the temple is dedicated to the destructive aspect of Shiva, which takes the form of Kali. To satisfy her bloodlust every morning goat sacrifices occur on the altar of the temple.
