According to the popular legend, in order to kill the demons Ratnasur and Raktabhoj, three gods named Brahma, Mahesha and Vishnu had taken the form of Jyotiba. Jyotiba assisted Goddess Mahalakshmi in her scuffle with the demons. Thus, the entire region got freedom from the tyranny of the demons.
