Alopi Devi Mandir deemed as a very sacred and prominent temple in Allahabad. Moreover, the temple is one of the famous Shakthi Peethas. According to the famous folklore, after the death of his wife Sati, anguished Lord Shiva travelled through skies along with the corpse of the Goddess Sati. In order to relieve him from the misery, Lord Vishnu threw his Chakra at the deity Sati’s corpse. As a result, various parts of Sati’s dead body fell in various parts of the world which became sacred and regarded as the holy places.

The famous Alopi Devi Mandir is dedicated to Goddess Alopshankari. It is situated in Alopibagh, Allahabad. The bizarre aspect of the temple is, it doesn’t boast any deity’s statue. However, the temple possesses a wooden carriage or ‘doli’ which is worshipped by thousands of devotees from various parts of the world. Another significant aspect of the Alopi Devi Mandir is it lies in proximity to the holy confluence where the rivers the Ganges, Yamuna and Sarasvati. Kumbh Mela is very close to this place.
